BEHIND THE SCENES
2013 | My film professor (turned mentor) was trying to coach us through our first narrative projects, and he told us to not make anything comedic or music-themed because they were too difficult to execute. Feeling the sudden urge to rebel, I just had to make my project a comedic musical.
My first musical ‘FRESHMAN’ got selected as part of the Emirates Film Competition in the Abu Dhabi Film Festival, cited as a breakthrough piece since it was the first time in the history of the competition that they included a musical.
2014 | After screening ‘FRESHMAN’ the year before, my mentor asked what happens to the kid. So I replied, “He becomes a senior in the sequel titled ‘SENIOR’.” He laughed so loudly at this lame joke, that I decided it would be worth it to make the second film. This also got into Abu Dhabi Film Festival, and it got accepted into Cannes Film Festival as well.
